Question by Original_Syn: Why does thinking of my obesity as a “disease” help keep me motivated to lose weight?
I’ve always been a yo yo dieter who struggles to stick to any diet or plan for “eating healthier”. I always have horrible cravings.

However, this week, I began to think of my obesity as a disease that I have to fight, kind of like diabetes, cancer or alcoholism. And for some reason, that has helped me a lot Every time I feel tempted to have a Big Mac, I start thinking, “Okay Lyn, that’s the disease talking. Fight it!” and it helps my cravings.

Article by Phoenix Delray

The goal of the best outpatient alcohol treatment centers is the establishment of individuals who are in need of assistance in helping them live a life without being addicted to drugs like alcohol. Programs in general have been made up and three different phases are at the core of the best programs that are aimed above all else at not only treating the individual, but also the entire family as well. These phases include detoxification, and rehabilitation, and continuing long term of outpatient alcohol treatment.

How to Treat a Fatty Liver

Article by Dorothy Spencer

Depending on the underlying causes of the disease, you can learn about how to treat a fatty liver. Fatty liver disease, or simply FLD, occurs when triglycerides accumulate in the liver at an unhealthy rate. Triglycerides are a kind of fat that can accumulate in the liver cells through steatosis, which is the process referred to when lipids are abnormally retained in the cell. The fats then replace the liver cells.

How to treat a fatty liver would depend on what kind it is – alcoholic or non alcoholic. These two have different causes. The first one, alcoholic liver, is brought about by excessive alcohol intake; while the second one, non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is brought about by other causes not related to alcohol such as, but not limited to, obesity and diabetes.

If you are a young person, 18-21, you may soon be carrying another card in your wallet: Right next to your driver’s license could be your “License to Drink.” The National Youth Rights Association (NYRA) has started a petition drive to lower the drinking age from 21 to 18. Several states are backing this initiative, including Florida, Wisconsin, Vermont and Missouri. NYRA hopes this will lead to more responsible drinking, but it could go the other way: increased admissions into drug and alcohol rehab centers.

Supporters of lowering the drinking age say the laws to increase the age haven’t resulted in less drinking by young people. And they may be right: The federal government’s 2005 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that 85% of 20- year-old Americans had consumed alcohol, and two out of five admitted to binge drinking (five or more drinks at one time) in the previous month. Opponents of the initiative also cite a recent CDC study showing that binge drinking is on the rise for teenagers. The incidence of alcohol abuse requiring drug or alcohol rehab has also increased.

Alcohol detoxification is a technique of improving the alcohol-influenced body, over a phase of time, to the extent that no more symptoms of alcohol exist in the body. The method of detoxification is mentally and physically painful and dangerous for an alcoholic. Consequently, right care and supervision should be ensured to the patient to help him take up his normal life.

Desisting from drinking is not an easy job for an alcoholic. When he gives up drinking, the physical and behavioral symptoms of withdrawal follow. The patient necessitates help from the surrounding people and environment. People should cooperate with him and encourage him to pass through this agonizing process. Experienced command can facilitate a patient to get healthy in a more successful and effective way, within the short time period.
