Can MCV and MCH be elevated on a blood test without indicating a problem?
I’m a 40 year old female and test results show high MCV (103 in range of 80-98) and high MCH (34.3 in range of 27-34). Calcium was also slightly low. Everything else was inside normal ranges. I’m having symptoms — low energy, insomnia, diarrhea, thirst, mood swings, headaches. And since I know alcoholism can affect these, I should add that I only drink rarely– maybe 2-4 times a year, although on those few occasions I do tend to drink the bar dry
My doctor didn’t know what to do with the results aside from send me to a hematologist. Since I don’t have insurance and finances are limited, I just wanted to ask first: are these levels high enough to definitely indicate a problem? Is a hematologist really the most efficient next step?
