Article by Luis Perdomo

When dealing with alcohol addiction confidentiality of the patient in the alcohol treatment centers plays a vital role. This helps to develop trust which is a very important aspect in any kind of therapeutic relationship which comprises of patients, practitioners as well as treatment centers. These treatment centers normally consider alcoholism as a multidimensional disorder where treatment comprises of medications and psychological counseling. During the clinical assessment and treatments a lot of personal questions will be asked and the centers will have on record even the most intimate and personal details of the patient. By itself alcoholism carries a social stigma and whatever acts the person may have committed and those that he has revealed to the counselors may be extremely damaging.

This addiction has physiological impacts as well as psychological consequences. Social stigma may result should any of the most confidential details ever leak out. Such leaks may be extremely harmful as the person will again be ostracized and will be lonely and then again relapse into alcoholism.

For the professionals at these alcoholism treatment centers to give perfect treatment they need to build up a physical and mental profile of the individual. Through questions even the most intimate secrets are revealed and all details are analyzed in order to prepare a treatment tailor made to the individual’s state of mind and body. Should any of these details be made public it is likely the individual may be affected adversely. Alcoholism treatment centers are aware of these factors and maintain a strict code of confidentiality built on trust and faith.

In many countries the government has realized the connection between confidentiality and recovery from addiction. These countries also have laws related to it. For example the Public Health Service Act of United States says those insurance companies, treatment centers; medical staff as well as others which have detail information about the patients should not disclose the information without the consent of the patient. When such kinds of laws are violated they are charged for fines, criminal charges and many times termination of license. This is basically done so that addicts build up confidentiality in these alcohol treatment centers.

Such strict regulations give you assurance that your information will not be disclosed and it is quite safe to disclose facts to these treatment centers. It is quite obvious that the person suffering from addiction would readily not disclose all the facts as he/she would fear from abusing. This can be a problem for treatment centers as knowing the truth is very important for the recovery. Hence it is important that treatment centers abide by the rules of confidentiality to get commitments from you.

The factors that are responsible for the success of treatment centers for you are extent of disclosure, motivation for leaving the addiction and the capacity of staying in the alcohol treatment centers. From all this it can be concluded that for getting successful results developing sense of trust and confidentiality is very important.

How Long Does Alcohol Detox Take? Alcohol detoxification is a process that lasts about six weeks. The most severe withdrawal symptoms occur during the first three weeks. The later weeks also can be uncomfortable, however, with residual symptoms of insomnia and anxiety. While some choose to detox at home, others opt go to treatment centers. It’s a personal choice. Detoxification is the beginning of the journey to recovery. Always consult a doctor before starting any type of detoxification program. When to Start Alcohol Detox Detoxification is treatment for the physical dependence that an alcoholic’s body has on alcohol. The detoxification process flushes the body of alcohol, allowing the alcoholic to start recovery treatment programs. Weeks 1 to 3 Intense symptoms tend to occur during the first one to three weeks of alcohol detox. The nervous system has been depressed by alcohol abuse, and suffers from synapses firing when alcohol intake stops. Symptoms during this time can include tremors, anxiety, severe seizures, hallucinations, shakes and sometimes even heart failure. The initial stages of detox can be dangerous, and death may result. Because of these intense side effects of alcohol withdrawal, doctors often cross-medicate in the first three …

Article by Focusapps06

It may be that you are near to develop the liver disease if you are doing excess consumption of alcohol. It is considered major cause of liver disease. Overconsumption of alcohol can lead to fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis. This condition is known as alcoholic liver disease. It can occur due to acute inflammation. Women are more susceptible to this disease than men. In the advance stage, it’s difficult to diagnose alcoholic liver disease symptoms. There may be many things behind the alcohol liver disease causes. When alcohol reach to the liver it becomes 80% detoxified, yet how it damages the liver is not completely understood. There are some risk factors that can cause this disease. These are:

• If alcohol is taken in excess quantity such as 60 to 80g per day for more than 20 years.

• Drinking outside meal times

• Female are more susceptible than men

• Hepatitis C infection can accelerate the condition

• Genetic factors

• Over consumption of iron

• Poor diet like deficiency of vitamin E and A can also lead to this disease

If the alcoholic liver disease causes and alcoholic liver disease symptoms are known completely then it’s possible to get rid of the problem. Doctors prefer for ultrasound and CT scan to assess the liver damage. In some cases liver biopsy is performed. It is done after giving local anesthesia. In the process, a small needle is placed in the liver to obtain a piece of tissue. After then this tissue is sent to the laboratory for further examination. The first treatment that can be taken is cessation of alcohol consumption. By stopping alcohol consumption, it’s possible to reverse liver damage. If treatment is not given on the right time, most of the patients of liver damage develop liver cirrhosis.

It is possible to get rid of from the condition if this disease is treated on the right time. Nutrition rich diet is highly important. It’s important for the regeneration of the liver. Intake of fat should be reduced as it creates interference with alcohol metabolism. Vitamin and mineral rich diet should be taken that incudes calcium and iron in rich amount. Drugs are very much important to avoid alcoholic liver disease causes and alcoholic liver disease symptoms. So, it should be continued.

When all the doors closed and there is no option to treat the condition then liver transplant is the last option. Liver donors are scarce. One of the criteria for liver transplant is that the person should not consume alcohol for a minimum of six months.

It is a severe disease that makes life measurable, sometimes alcohol costs to the life. Prevention is the only option of this condition so use preventive measures to treat the condition before it occur.

Article by Holisticdrugrehab

When it comes to treating addiction to drug or alcohol, the principal factor that acts as a hurdle is the negative attitude of the addict to his problem. It is a strange scenario as the addict feels that nothing is wrong and everyone is making an unnecessary fuss about the issue. He feels that there is simply no problem with him/her and on the contrary, everyone else is perceived to be problematic to that person. Drug and alcohol intervention specialists can help the addict in such cases to re-orient his psychological mechanism and accept the problem in order to seek effective treatment. The basic premise on which these interventions operate is that it is best not to leave things as they are and continue to plan the best approaches towards the addict so that he/she does not feel that special attention is being given to him/her. Meanwhile, the prudent option is to gather as much information as possible from the family or the surroundings about the type of drug taken by the individual and the way he behaves and the frequency of drug intake. The methods of drug and alcohol intervention differ according to the background of the addict and the degree of addiction. For example, the way of intervention for someone who has just started taking drugs will definitely be different from the one who is quite deeply addicted.

People found to be addicted do not actually comprehend the harshness of their crisis. The only objective for them is to get access to the drug, regardless of the consequences. They do not consider any other factors – social, health or legal. However, no matter what type of drug the person is taking, trained expert assistance is always available from drug and alcohol intervention professionals. They can provide a precise explanation of the user’s actions to make them understand the impact of addiction. Moreover, interventionists know the different ways of handling addicts with alcoholism, heroin addiction, cocaine addiction or those who are taking inhalants or methamphetamine.

It is imperative for you not to be considerate towards the addict. Since it is a question of life and death, you should not be sympathetic to that person, even if there is some kind of emotional attachment to him/her. Another significant point to be kept in mind is that, an effective drug and alcohol intervention may make all the difference in the world to help the addict get back to the normal stream of society.

Even a short session with a specialist can prove remarkably helpful in resolving the problem. Hence short visits to a clinic may eventually lead the addict to a rehab program, which is extremely important for recovery. Once in the grip of addiction, the addicts no longer remain the person they originally were; and due to this, the intervention phase sometimes becomes extremely unbearable for the family members to witness. Their affection and love for the person sometimes tend to get in the way and it is really hard for the family member or friend of the addict to remain oblivious or maintain distance from the addict. However, in spite of the strict methods adopted by such interventions, patients find a lot of love and understanding in the process and they are really thankful when they realize the difference that intervention made in their lives in the long run.

I have to start this post by first asking you all to keep an open mind. I understand often the harm reduction model is not easy to accept. I, myself, do not believe I would have found sobriety in such a program, but I was lucky. By the time I hit the streets I had gone through a detox. Some people are not so lucky and drugs and alcohol have complete control over them. Trying to help a homeless friend in Los Angeles is what changed my mind, and why I requested to visit such a facility. My friend has been homeless since his mother died. After years of trying to drinking his pain away there is not much of my friend left. Alcohol has completely taken over his life. His liver is damaged so much there are sores on his leg. The sores are so bad he cannot wear pants. He ties bandannas around his leg so the sores are not visible. Any normal person would have stopped drinking. But my homeless friend cannot stop on his own. He will die homeless because Los Angeles has yet to adopt the harm reduction model. Any absence based program WILL NOT WORK for my friend. It breaks my heart! This week I visited an a managed alcohol program in Ottawa, Canada. The Oaks Residence is a unique partnership between the Shepherds of Good Hope, Inner City Health and Canadian Mental Health Association. Residents are given an hourly “dose” of alcohol in a clean and safe supervised environment. At first I was a little shocked walking in. All the residents were carrying cups, which I knew were filled with …

As a recovering alcoholic, each day I learn more about alcoholism treatment. I have discovered that healing the relationship with myself is my treatment for alcoholism. A few years ago when I only had a couple months sober, I was standing outside an AA central office talking with my sponsor and another gentlemen who had many years of sobriety. The gentlemen said, “Recovery is all about being OK with yourself.” The longer I’m sober and work on my recovery, the more I realize how true this is. Not just for a recovering alcoholic, but for most people.

After looking back, I realize my entire life was spent comparing myself to others. I would see myself through other people’s eyes, trying to be what I thought people viewed as successful and popular. I was always the life of the party and full of cheer and good times. At least that’s what it looked like on the outside. I thought if I looked good on the outside, I must be good on the inside. Maybe this sounds confusing, that’s OK, it was for me also.

Not until several years into my recovery have I realized that I didn’t like myself all that much. It is easy to see now that if I had liked who I was, I would not have treated myself the way I did. Self-deprecating thoughts and depressive behavior was normal for me most of my life. Mind you, I did not realize this until years of recovery. Like I said, I had what I felt like in the inside confused with what I thought people saw on the outside.

So is low self-esteem what caused my alcoholism? I don’t think so, but it surely did not help it much. I started drinking at an early age, before high school. As a result, I never truly learned how to deal with emotions in a healthy way. I had an alcohol abuse counselor tell me one time that alcoholism is a disease of the emotions. I believe that to be true. I simply did not know how to deal with emotions. Although I did not realize I was drinking to numb the uncomfortable emotions, this is something I didn’t realize until years later. Drinking was just something I had done so often for so long, the natural side effect was that I never truly felt emotions. And when I did start to feel them, naturally I would drink more.

Once I surrendered and asked for help, after years of trying to stay sober on my own, I’ve learned how to have a healthy relationship with myself. I’ve healed the hurt individual inside who I was fighting against for years. I’ve stopped comparing my insides to other peoples outsides and am just happy to be the best me I can be.

I heard someone say recently that inner-peace is finding how to “accept the consequences of being myself.” I treat my alcoholism today by healing the relationship with my own soul. I’m kind to myself today and love who I am.

Question by Pam H: My brother,a diagnosed alcoholic, has hand tremors which he says is Parkinsons Disease. True?
He takes no medication and, unfortunately, has no intention of stopping his drinking. This entire scenario has recently become more serious since my Mom (who always referred to AA as a “group of religious fanatics”, stating more than once, he “didn’t NEED to go to AA because he wasn’t an alcoholic”) passed 3mos. ago. He has received SSDisability for 10 years based on a diagnosis of “mental illness”; and my mother’s ability (and influence being a politician) finding a psychiatrist who would say this and the fact he was getting a divorce, moving back to my parents, and hadn’t worked in years! My mother and I parented in very different ways, but I still loved her; I just didn’t understand her.In addition to his alcoholism he is also a pathological liar and actually collected SSDisability AND worked a full-time job for 3 yrs…until he was caught. Of course my Mom blamed the guy at SS who “lied” to my brother…oh, well.

Before she entered the hospital for surgery, Mom appointed my twin brothers, the youngest brothers, as co-executors. I’m the oldest and only daughter, but my Mom was a feminist who was a chauvinist and it really didn’t matter to me anyway…until now. My brother(the one with the drinking problem) in the meantime, had found someone on the internet, remarried and, of course, both he and his wife moved in with my parents. Previously to Mom going to the hospital, she signed over the house and $ 60,000 to my brother already living there (let’s call him “g” from now on). G and his wife, who took EXCELLENT care of Dad, paid the house taxes, insurance, utilities, fuel oil and maintenance bills out of the $ 60,000. Due to a medical snafu, Mom never returned home and spent the next 3 yrs in a nursing home; Dad, already suffering from dementia, was put into the same nursing home and died a year TO THE DAY before my Mom. Now enter my brothers, the co-executors.

My Mom died in March, but the twin who was really handling things (the other twin was in court-ordered rehab for heroin addiction) had “g” sign over the house and the remaining $ 43,000 to HIMSELF, saying how it was done to hide Mom’s assets from the State (not a very good story considering these “assets” hadn’t been in my Mom’s name for almost 3 years); “g” at the time of the funeral STILL couldn’t understand why he “didn’t have the key to Mom’s house anymore”!! He had no idea he had even SIGNED OVER the house and money and, conveniently, never requested or was given a copy of what he signed.

The atty. supposedly representing the estate, actually represented the co-executors (or in this case the one executor who was orchestrating this scenario). Mom’s will stated the house, possessions, and any monies were to be split between the 4 children; with $ 1000 to be given to each of the 4 grandchildren. I started to smell a rat and called the atty. who stated there “really wasn’t any estate left except for the possessions since “g” “had signed over the house and the monies ($ 43,000) to Mr. co-Executor as a personal GIFT!!” Then he told me the reason being to protect “g’s” “share of the estate for his future NURSING CARE!!” I asked “what nursing care?”, and was told, “treatment for his Parkinson’s Disease which of course, is a degenerative disease.”. I figure either this atty is the most gullible atty around OR…he’s in on it and will get a percentage of this “nursing care” money!!

So there ya have it folks…sorry it took so long, but explaining Dysfunctional Families is not the fastest or easiest thing to do. For those who have hung in there with me…you have my sincere gratitude and blessings. I already know all this crap that went down can be legally challenged ;I’ve been looking for an attorney who will take the case on contingency which, since there is no estate anymore and I don’t have $ 2500 to put down as a retainer, has proved to be impossible, but I will continue with the quest. I can’t exactly BRING “g” to the doctor, because it will open up the whole can of worms with the SSDIS thing and he’s already been caught for fraud once! So if anyone has any insight into this thing, please bring it on!!! I’m completely open to suggestions…ANY suggestions. Thanks.

Answer by Sal Paradise
I don’t want to read everything you wrote but I will still answer your question.

I used to be an alcoholic and had hand tremors just like your brother. The people I used to work with noticed it and some of them thought that it was Parkinsons Disease. It wasn’t. Your brother is sick but not with Parkinsons. It’s bullsh*t.

Once he stops drinking for a month or two the tremors will stop.

Every treatment program at Sunset Malibu’s exclusive private drug rehab facility is designed for a specific individual resident. That, in a nutshell, is what distinguishes Sunset Malibu from its competitors. The fact of the matter is that too many “exclusive” Malibu drug and alcohol rehab centers treat every client the same way, as if what worked for one should somehow work for them all. But that simply isn’t the case—which is why Sunset Malibu takes special pride in doing things differently.

Sunset Malibu’s clinical experts conduct a thorough one-on-one evaluation of every new client. They then use the results of that evaluation to construct a personally-tailored alcohol and drug treatment plan, complete with medical, physical, and emotional dimensions. The result is a holistic approach to the healing process, one that makes a world of difference for the residents who call Sunset home. All that remains, now, is for you to make the right choice.

Sunset Malibu is the best drug treatment center in California. But even Sunset’s professional caregivers can’t help a client who refuses to be helped. If you’re going to go through alcohol or drug rehabilitation, it’s going to be because you find the courage to take the first step, by walking through the front door at Sunset’s secluded private estate. You will never, ever, make a better decision. For your own sake, let today be the day you finally do what you must.

Article by Donna Sparks

Barbiturate was one of the most effective drug used to prevent and to treat alcoholism withdrawal. However, because of their adverse side effects, barbiturates are now largely replaced by benzodiazepines mainly since benzodiazepines are significantly less dangerous, particularly in overdose. That is the main reason for its rapid decline. Barbiturates, although effective as treatment or as preventive measure for withdrawal syndromes to alcoholism, are also known to cause severe addiction and overdose, the latter being the most frequent case.

Overdose to BarbiturateCompared to benzodiazepines, barbiturates are known to cause rapid overdose. An overdose results when a person takes a larger-than-prescribed dose of a drug, usually because of increased tolerance to the drug. With regular use, tolerance to the effects of barbiturates develops. According to teen treatment center therapists, this in turn may leads to a need for increasing doses of the drug to get the original desired pharmacological or therapeutic effect. Although benzodiazepines are known to cause quick tolerance than barbiturates, its overdose level is minimal compared to that of barbiturates’. Common symptoms of barbiturate overdose include:

SluggishnessIncoordinationDifficulty in thinkingSlowness of speechFaulty judgmentDrowsinessShallow breathingStaggeringIn severe cases, coma and death

The lethal dosage of barbiturates varies greatly with tolerance and from one individual to another. According to teen treatment center therapists, even in inpatient settings, the development of tolerance is still a problem, as dangerous and unpleasant withdrawal symptoms can result when the drug is stopped after dependence has developed.

Barbiturates in overdose with other CNS depressants such as alcohol, opiates or benzodiazepines is even more dangerous due to additive CNS and respiratory depressant effects. According to teen treatment center therapists, in the case of benzodiazepines, not only do they have additive effects, barbiturates also increase the binding affinity of the benzodiazepine binding site thus leading to an exaggerated effect of benzodiazepines.

Current state of the drugIn the 1950s and 1960s, increasing reports began to be published about barbiturate overdoses and dependence problems which eventually led to the scheduling of barbiturates as controlled drugs. In 1970 several barbiturates were designated in the United States as controlled substances with the passage of the American Controlled Substances Act of 1970. Pentobarbital, secobarbital and amobarbital were designated schedule II drugs, butabarbital schedule III, and barbital and phenobarbital schedule IV. The drug is currently available in selected and controlled areas and has now been stopped for use in alcoholism withdrawal.

The sole importance of intervention lies in the fact that in order to treat an ailment you need to first accept it and then go forward with its treatment. Alcoholism treatment center can help you achieve that with the help of their specialized personnel. A long term goal of complete recovery from alcoholism needs to be confronted with the alcoholic. There have been situations where the individuals are faced with a choice of letting the addicted individual indulge in alcohol or intervening in the process. Family members prefer the easier way out and let them indulge. But this is certainly an acceptable and irresponsible form of behavior. However repeated failed attempts at intervention may have resulted in this attitude of the individuals.

The Process of Professional Intervention:

An alcoholism treatment center has the proper man power at their assistance to deal with intervention. Family members find it extremely intriguing when an attempt to intervene leads the alcoholics to hurl abuses, shout and create a scene in order to get to what they want. They keep justifying their addiction as long they can. Out of pity, fear and sometimes sympathy the family members give in to demands and even commit the mistake of trusting them when they promise that their liking of alcohol has not reached the level of addiction and it is just a way to relieve work related stress and unwind. A professional method of intervention will follow a way in which the alcoholics will not get agitated when questioned about their addiction and they will realize the importance of seeking help.

The effect of alcohol makes the functioning of the brain cells numb. The role of alcoholism treatment center is significant to approach the situation in a correct manner and make them understand in a frank manner the consequences of their actions on the lives of others and to the society as a whole. It is a tough task to make the alcoholics accept their alcoholism and come out of denial so that they can be made to see reason in seeking help. Another way is to approach them when they are sober and start the process of treatment before they get the next craving for alcohol. The choice of the best way o intervene is best left with the alcohol treatment centers to decide.

In the past, people who were struggling with alcohol addiction had only one means of help offered to them — quitting cold turkey. It’s little wonder that the success rate for treating alcoholism was so low until recently. Modern science has taught us that alcoholism is more than just a mental weakness on the part of the patient — it’s a chronic disease which causes severe changes to a person’s brain along with the rest of their body.

Recent developments have also changed how alcoholism is treated in alcohol and drug rehab clinics across the country. Along with a more holistic approach — including treatment of mental disorders and other underlying causes that caused people to drink in the first place — modern treatments for alcoholism can also include the use of select prescription drugs. While one pill can’t “cure” an alcoholic, several drugs have shown positive results in helping people who are committed to treatment change their lives.

Here is a look at three of the most common drugs used during the treatment process at alcohol rehabilitation clinics in the United States:

Naltrexone: This is the most common prescription drug treatment for alcoholism in the United States. It is effective because it blocks the opioid receptors that cause alcoholics to receive pleasure from drinking. Over time, naltrexone trains the brains of recovering alcoholics to no longer crave alcohol because they are not getting the needed positive sensations after drinking. It is very effective as a drug that provides a gateway to sobriety after patients finish treatment at alcohol rehab centers by reducing the likelihood of a heavy relapse.

Acamprosate: Frequently prescribed during alcohol rehab for people who are attempting to quit after having developed severe alcohol problems, acamprosate helps to heal damage caused by years of excessive drinking. Long-term alcoholism can do significant damage to the brain, causing severe withdrawal symptoms like insomnia, anxiety and paranoia that can linger for years. Acamprosate helps to reduce these feelings by essentially “patching” the problem areas inside a person’s brain and attempting to rewire it to work properly again.

Disulfiram: Unlike the other two drugs mentioned above that are frequently used in an alcohol addiction center, disulfiram uses negative reinforcement to attempt to dissuade alcoholics from drinking. After a person takes disulfiram, even the slightest amount of alcohol will make them extremely nauseous. This is a highly effective treatment for people who are committed to their sobriety.

Article by Jim M. Smith

Alcohol is a potent central nervous system depressant with a wide range of effects. The amount you consume effects how drunk you will get.

The effects of alcohol change over time. When you first start drinking. You may feel relaxed. But the more you drink, the more side effects you begin to feel, like blurred vision and slurred speech.

Euphoria is an effect that alcohol has on people. Essentially, getting the euphoric effect means you will feel an overall mood improvement. You may be more self-confident when drinking. Your attention span shortens and you may feel more flushed. Whether your believe it or now, your judgment won’t be as good as you think it is and you may well say the first thing that comes to mind or do things that you would not normally do. You will also start to have trouble with fine movements such as signing their name. With more alcohol, lethargy may start to set in. Lethargy is the side effect where you may become sleepy. You have trouble remembering things that happened, even recent things you have done. Body movements are uncoordinated and you may react to situations more slowly. Your vision becomes blurry and they have trouble seeing.

Confusion is also caused by drinking. You may get confused and very emotional, less likely to respond to pain. If you get in a fight while you are drunk, you will not feel the pain until the alcohol wears off.

Stupor is another short term effect of alcohol. In this condition movement is seriously impaired and you may lapse in and out of consciousness. You can slip into a coma and become completely unaware of your surroundings. At this point, the risk to the body is very high due to alcohol poisoning. Loss of body functions can begin like losing control of the bladder, breathing and heart rate.

Drinking large amounts of alcohol can lead to coma and even death. If you want to avoid these risks, the best way to do it is to avoid alcohol. You can start being effected by alcohol from the very first sip, whether you realize it or not.

Excessive doses of alcohol can cause long term as well as short-term side effects. Some of the long term effects are: slowing, blurred vision, vertigo, amnesia, ataxia, and hangovers.

The liver is part of the body’s filtration system. This means when it is damaged it allows certain toxins to build up, leading to symptoms of Jaundice. This is what you are seeing when a person’s skin begins to turn yellow.

Many people don’t think of alcohol as a drug but the fact is that it is a drug. It is just as lethal as any other drug can be. When you overuse any drug you can expect consequences. This is also true with alcohol. Many people think that it is okay to have a beer once in a while or that if you drink at home you won’t be hurting anyone.

Think again. You are hurting yourself and by hurting yourself you are hurting the ones that care about you. Whether you drink some at home or at a bar, alcohol can have the same effect on you. One sip and the process begins.

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive substance that is harvested and purified from the Tabernanthe iboga plant. This plant is an Apocynaceae shrub that grows in the jungles of West Africa. Ibogaine was first used by the people of the Gabon for both ritual purposes and for medicinal healing. Recent studies have revealed that Ibogiane contains extremely effective anti-addictive properties which are now used to treat severe addiction.

One of the most renowned therapeutic characteristics of Ibogaine is that it eliminates opioid withdrawal completely. Extensive studies and research in the field of addiction have suggested that Ibogaine plays an extraordinarily effective role in all kinds of drug addiction treatment, including, heroin addiction treatment, cocaine addiction treatment, alcohol addiction treatment, methadone addiction treatment, meth addiction treatment and oxycontin addiction treatment. Many researchers share the belief that Ibogaine also has characteristics that might help treat compulsive behavioral patterns that are not related to chemical dependence or substance abuse.

The basic effects of the Ibogaine Treatment in chemical dependence is seperated into three distinctive categories; long term, intermediate and acute. The intermediate and the acute stages are sometimes also referred to as the after effects. The most significant contributions of Ibogaine administration include:

* Ibogaine eliminates the urge to continue the use of opiates, cocaine, alcohol and other mind altering drugs. * Ibogaine has been proven to alleviate the withdrawal symptoms of stimulants and opioid narcotics.

As Ibogaine has been proven to be effective in treating drug addiction, it still remains to be seen whether or not Ibogaine is effective for alcohol addiction treatment. The very little data that is available suggests Ibogaine may be effective in treating patients who are dependent on alcohol, but is much more effective for patients who are suffering from poly-addiction diagnosis.

When Ibogaine is used to treat alcohol addiction, the protocol is very similar to the ibogaine administration protocol used for drug addiction. The outcome of the Ibogaine treatment will depend on whether the patient wants to stop using and if the patient has outlined an effective after care plan for recovery.
