Article by Art Jones

Alcohol addiction is a serious problem. It can have a lasting negative impact on personal relationships, business, and health as well. But even when it becomes quite advanced, it can sometimes be difficult to detect. These signs can be indicators that an individual is struggling with alcohol abuse. Keep in mind that only a qualified mental health or medical professional can provide advice for a specific individual, and that no article can provide a diagnosis or treatment.

Excessive Consumption

The first indication is usually that an individual is noted to be consuming amounts that seem to be excessive, either based on their previous history or in objective terms. There is a certain amount that the human body is designed to handle easily, and anything beyond that can start to be harmful. If an individual is frequently drinking enough that they become ill, black out, or have other noticeable health impacts from their consumption. This is not a necessary symptom by any means, but if it exists, it is a warning sign.

Sneaking Or Hiding Drinks

Depending on the individual, he or she may (consciously or not) recognize that a problem exists and start trying to hide it. If you notice stores of wine, beer, or other drinks usually kept around the house beginning to disappear with no explanation, that may be an indication that someone in the house is fighting alcohol addiction and trying to hide it.

Failed Attempts To Stop

Alcohol abuse is very difficult to stop without professional assistance. An individual who insists that they can stop at any time, but attempts to and fails or doesn’t try at all is showing a sign that they are deeply addicted.

Unexplained Behavioral Changes

Excessive consumption and the stress of alcohol abuse can dramatically change an individual’s personality. They may become reclusive, they may become combative, they may become quiet and withdrawn – it varies widely from individual to individual. This behavior may be accompanied by one of the others listed here, but it’s also among the most commonly noted by people who don’t know the affected person well. It’s something that is common to notice if you have any kind of interaction with the person, even if they’re not a close friend.

Missing Work Or Other Commitments

One of the common features of addiction is a focus on drinking which can supersede other responsibilities. If a person is consistently ducking out of work, avoiding family commitments, and providing not solid reason for it, that could be a warning sign. This is one of the least certain indicators listed here, as there can be many other reasons for this behavior, most of them benign. However, if observed in concert with others listed here, it can still be a serious red flag.

If you observe any of these behaviors in yourself or in a loved one, it might be time to seriously consider whether alcohol abuse is an issue or not. Taking an honest look at habits and considering how to address a problem as soon as it is noticed can save a lot of heartache and potential health complications down the road.

Anyone who has ever attempted to help someone when it comes to alcohol intervention knows how frustrating this can be. After all, those who are alcoholics rarely admit that they have a drinking problem and usually have to hit rock bottom before they decide to do anything about alcohol substance abuse. Most of the time, they are ordered by the court to see someone relating to their alcohol abuse. This is usually because of a DUI or some other incident that relates to the abuse of alcohol. Even then, they may resist the idea that they need help and think that they have everything under control.

The truth of the matter is that the person who has the problem has to acknowledge the problem so that they can get the help that they need. If they do not say that they have a problem nor do they feel as though they need help for their problem with alcohol, then it can be difficult to get them any sort of help that they need. A person has to be willing to accept the fact that they need help with their drinking problem and that they, in fact, do have a drinking problem in order to get the help that they need.

There are many treatment programs that work for those who are addicted to alcohol. Alcoholism is like any other type of drug addiction. Because it is a substance that can be abused, people can get addicted to alcohol. They usually will develop a tolerance to alcohol as well. This means that the more that you take when it comes to alcohol, the more your body becomes dependent upon the substance and the more you can continue to take. The more you continue to take alcohol, the more you will be able to absorb. Therefore, your body needs more and more of the alcohol to get the same effect. This is what is meant by building up a tolerance.

There are physical withdrawal symptoms that are attached to alcohol withdrawal as well. These symptoms include Delirium Tremors that are the most common of withdrawal from alcohol. Those who have been abusing alcohol for quite some time will not only have an emotional dependency on the drug, but also a physical dependency on the drug as well. And make no mistake about it, alcohol is a drug.

While there are some people who can enjoy social drinking and then put it down when they are not interested in drinking, others cannot do this and need to have an increasing amount of alcohol in their system. Those who find that alcohol interferes with their lives, their work, their relationship and causes them distress are usually alcoholics and should seek out some sort of recovery program that can help them get rid of their problem once and for all and get sober. Once someone makes the decision to become sober, they can usually beat alcoholism through a good recovery program.

About Pneumonia Pneumonia is probably a disease known to humans since ancient times. Pneumonia is surprisingly common across the globe. Common forms of pneumonia can be treated very easily. But severe conditions are responsible for majority of deaths worldwide. Pneumonia is often confused with common cold or fever and therefore must be given urgent medical attention.

What is Pneumonia: Pneumonia is a condition of the lungs and the respiratory tract. If viruses or bacteria infect and colonize, these regions become irritated. This shows up as inflammation of the lungs or more particularity of the microscopic air sacs or alveoli Causes of Pneumonia: Bacteria, viruses, fungi and other parasites are known to cause Pneumonia. There are over a hundred different known organisms that can cause Pneumonia. Pneumonia causes are outlined below:

Bacteria: A number of bacteria can enter your respiratory system. Inhaling cold winter wind, alcoholism, smoking and contact with farm animals or infected people increase the chances of Pneumonia. Bacteria such as, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, Chlamydophila pneumonia, Moraxella catarrhalis, Legionella pneumophila, Mycoplasma pneumoniae and gram-negative bacilli are known species that attack the respiratory system

Viruses: Viruses affect more than one third of Pneumonia patients. Viruses such as parainfluenza, rhinoviruses, coronaviruses, influenza virus, adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are known to cause Pneumonia. Herpes simplex virus and cytomegalovirus (CMV) are known to weaken the immune system and causing Pneumonia as other bacteria and virus attack the body

Fungi and other parasites: Fungi, protozoa and other parasites can enter the respiratory system through inhalation, open wounds during surgery and other means. Though the percentage of such infections causing pneumonia is lower these infections can be fatal.

Symptoms of Pneumonia: Pneumonia symptoms start showing up as soon as the lungs become inflamed.

Some of the symptoms of pneumonia are as follows:Systemic symptoms such as high fever often with colds or chillsCerebral symptoms such as headache or mood swingsLungs related symptoms such as coughing, chest pain, and shortness of breath Fatigue, general feeling of weakness or weight loss, loss of appetite, Vomiting, Body ache, low blood pressure, digestive problems and nauseaIf such symptoms are seen, Pneumonia diagnosis is necessary.

Diagnosis of Pneumonia can be done using physical examination such as taking the temperature or pulse rate and listening to the chest sounds via a stethoscope. In certain cases, a throat swab test, blood test, chest x-ray and urine test may be used to obtain clear picture of the infection

Treatment of Pneumonia: Pneumonia must be done on an urgent basis. Some time, a Pneumonia patient may have to an emergency medical care facility. Based on the diagnosis antibiotics are administered immediately either intravenously or orally.

Pneumonia is treatable but requires immediate medical attention. Do not ignore the symptoms of Pneumonia, if you experience severe pain, fever and colds.

If you are suffering from seemingly unexplainable and unpleasant symptoms like chronic tiredness, Poor memory, Brain fog, Irritability, Anger, Dizziness, Depression, Crying spells, Panic attacks, Low libido, Persistent extreme fatigue, Hyperactivity, Cravings for sweets and alcohol, Insomnia, Poor coordination and digestive issues? You may be experiencing the symptoms of a Candida Infection

Candida Symptoms;

• Frequent stomach pains and digestion problems• Skin problems (skin infections, eczema, psoriasis, acne)• Foggy brain / Trouble concentrating• Constant tiredness and exhaustion• Anxiety• Depression• Mood swings• Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)• Anger outbursts• Irritability• Headaches• Intense cravings for sugars, sweets, and breads• Itchy skin• Extreme Fatigue• Low Libido• Hypertension/High Blood Pressure• Sensitivity to heat/cold• Irritable bowel• Low grade fever or low body temperature• Allergies• Lightheadedness

These symptoms have been linked to an overgrowth of a common fungal organism known as Candida albicans – a fungus that is normally present on the skin and in the mucus membrane such as the vagina. mouth and rectum. The fungus can also travel through the blood stream and affect the intestines, throat and even the heart valves. Candida albicans becomes an infectious agent when there is some change in the body environment that allows it to grow out of control. Found in each one of us as a part of our intestinal flora. The problems arise when we eat too much sugar, take antibiotics for a period of time, or have a weakened immune system. All these factors can ultimately lead to Candida infection, a condition that plagues so many people worldwide, yet most of them are unaware of it due to the lack of information presented in the mainstream media. The good news is that this condition can be treated! If you are showing signs of a yeast infection there are several highly effective proven probiotic Candida Treatments available.A big advantage of the probiotic products is that you don’t have to stick to a strict diet when using them and they don’t give the nasty side effects that conventional treatments can.

Candida Die off Symptoms;Being on an anti-candida diet or taking anti-fungal (Candida) treatments will eventually cause Candida cells to “die-off”.This is a good thing because it is a sign that the Candida Yeast is actually dying but, the down side is that the dying cells of Candida may release toxins in high amounts and as a result, you may end up feeling worse than you did before you started your treatment. This is because the toxins are released often build up faster than the body can deal with via the natural elimination process. This ‘die off’ process is known as the Herxheimer Reaction.

Common symptoms of Candida Die Off include;

• flu-like symptoms• dizziness, brain fog• headaches• diarrhea or constipation• skin rash• sweating

These Candida Die Off Symptoms can last from one day to a week and can come and go as you continue your treatment. There are ways you can ease the symptoms of Candida Die Off and these are outlined below.

How to Prevent Candida Die off;

Chronic Candida can be quite difficult to remove from your body and it is likely that you will experience some of the symptoms of Candida Die-Off.A lot of these Candida Die-Off Symptoms can be avoided by following these guidelines:

• Drink plenty of purified water.• Include plenty of fibre in your diet.• Taking Epsom salt or Baking Soda baths will help draw out toxins.• A sauna can help sweat out toxins.• Increase the dosage of your anti-fungal supplements gradually according to your responses • Take 2 activated charcoal capsules every six hours.• Don’t eat anything that may feed the Candid Yeast while taking anti fungals, this will make die of symptoms a lot worse.• Try a Colon Cleansing product to get rid of toxins more quickly.

When taking anti-fungals or any other method of beating Candida, you must go at your own pace and not overwhelm your body by trying to kill of the Candida Yeast too quickly. The more severe reaction doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re killing more yeast; it just means that your body is becoming overwhelmed, and that is not good for the healing process. Candida Die-Off Symptoms can be really frustrating but stay the course. Every day the body is ridding itself of Candida is another day closer to restoring good health.

If you are have someone that you love and care about that is struggling with alcoholism, then you might consider doing an alcohol intervention in order to try to convince them to get help. There are a few things you can do in order to better organize such an effort.

One thing you might do is to clearly outline the goal of the intervention. Most people just say “alright, let’s all get together and try to convince the alcoholic that their life is out of control and that they need help.” This is not good enough and will not product good results in most cases. The problem is that the goal is not specific and actionable enough. We want to make it so that the intervention has a very specific outcome and that is the action that we want the alcoholic to take. For example, you might call a local treatment center and set up an intake in advance to coincide with the intervention. In this case, the goal of the intervention would be to get the alcoholic to attend the rehab center. That is a clearly defined outcome and will lead to much better results than if you just confront the person and try to elicit some sort of change.

One other tip is that you probably do not want to be too threatening during the intervention, though the temptation to do so may be rather high. The problem with doing so is that it can create resentment and force the alcoholic to draw away from you, losing your trust. In some cases threats have worked but for the most part they create more hostility and do not generally help much.

You might consider the idea that it is not the right time at all to do an intervention in the first place. Only do so when you are at the end of your rope, and are using it as a last resort.

A well-planned gestational diabetes diet can upend symptoms of gestational diabetes that you are exhibiting and enable you to enjoy fit delivery. It produces in otherwise diabetes-free women, typically in 24th to 28th weeks of their pregnancy. Like Type 2 diabetes mellitus, the gestational diabetes can be competently controlled in plenty of cases, and even overturned fully in many cases through putting into practice gestational diabetes diet and getting daily physical exercise. Remember, what causes diabetes mellitus is poor dieting and inactive living year after year.

Gestational diabetes indications often go unnoticed or are not thought to be strange given that women is pregnant. Most frequently, its symptoms include being very thirsty and having to pee many times every day. Plenty of women just think that it as natural part of pregnancy and leave it as it is. However, if thirst is result of prominent blood-sugar levels, then developing baby is at risk if symptoms are not controlled.

The gestational diabetes diet is just like Type 2 diabetes diet and should be based as follows: non-fat and low-fat dairy products; water foods are major concentration that means plants: vegetables, fruits, grains and legumes; avoid saturated fats; leanest cuts of meat with all excess fat trimmed; avoid alcohol: strongly avoid Trans fats; avoid high sugar foods and microwave foods; avoid processed foods and fast foods; drink good amount of fresh water everyday; avoid high sodium foods; eat your meals at same times everyday and eat 5 to 6 small meals everyday.

Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia is the unusually diminished content of sugar in blood. The term means under-sweet blood and can create plenty of effects and symptoms. The main problems arise from insufficient supply of glucose to brain, resulting in mutilation of neuroglycopenia. Effects can range from more serious issues like unconsciousness, permanent brain damage or death and seizures to mild dysphoria.

The most widespread forms of hypoglycemia happen as complication of treatment of diabetes mellitus with oral medications or insulin. It is less common in persons with no diabetes, but occurs at any age. Amongst causes are inborn errors of medications, poisons and metabolism, excessive insulin produced in hyperinsulinemia, hormone deficiencies, alcohol, alterations of metabolism associated with infection, organ failure and prolonged starvation.

Hypoglycemia can be treated by restoring sugar level to normal by administration of carbohydrate foods or dextrose or ingestion. In plenty of serious conditions it is treated by infusion of glucagons or injection. Recurring hypoglycemia might be prevented by removing or reversing underlying cause, by augmenting frequency of meals, with medications such as octreotide, diazoxide or glucocorticoids, or by surgical removal.

The blood glucose level low enough for defining hypoglycemia might be dissimilar for different people, in different situations, and for dissimilar purposes; infrequently has been matter of controversy. Most fit adults preserve fasting sugar levels above 72 mg/dl, and create indications of hypoglycemia while glucose falls under four mmol/L. It can at times be hard for determining whether the symptoms of a person are because of hypoglycemia.

Many of us suffer from alcohol. You’re able to enumerate plenty of points for the addiction.
For alcohol intervention to fulfill its purpose, you have to give your hearing to each other. The session is all about communication. The family members, buddies and also co-workers speak out to tell their feelings about the addiction and, in return, the patient listens to the outcomes of his / her behavior. Immediately after their part, it is time for the victim to share his part of story. A professional facilitator can perform that alcohol intervention. With encouragement, you’re able to be aware of motives why he turned to the dependence.

The alcohol intervention teaches the individuals around about the suitable timing in showing their empathy. Understand the problem of the issue. The method to get over the addiction may not be easy. It’s really a long and winding path. Keep your heart wide open as well as stop nagging. Try to be as relaxed as doable in dealing with it.

Support

The support of significant individuals is definitely a necessary component of alcohol intervention. This system or even the finest service cannot handle the entire problem without having the cooperation from them. You must motivate the victim to change his ways and also adopt a healthier life. Promote a far better living in school or in the office environment and especially at home.

Article by Ben Pate

Negative emotions are the number one trigger of alcohol dependency. Too often, people are struggling with painful emotions and use alcohol as a way to escape. If a person wishes to obtain freedom, he/she should consider inpatient alcohol addiction rehab in order break their addiction.

Forgiveness

The programs followed in alcohol rehab believe that forgiveness can help break the addiction. The program begins by trying to help individuals forgive themselves. With forgiveness, a person can really look deep within themselves to understand why they feel the way they feel. They begin to bring issues that have been plaguing them to the surface. This is the best way a person can overcome past hurts and failures.

Empowerment

Another aspect that is highly important is the sense of empowerment. Being empowered can help people overcome their addiction by making them appear bigger than their problems. The contextualizing of abusive and negative experiences can reduce the amount of stress and anxiety a person carries with their emotions. With the decline of stress, patients will begin to notice improvements in health related problems.

Relapse-Free

To encourage full recovery, patients need to believe that they will not only recover but be relapse-free. This is done by steadily building healthy boundaries. A great way this is started is by writing. Patients are encouraged to write daily. What they write and how they write is completely up to the individual. The purpose of writing is to create an outlet where negative emotions can be purged.

One-On-One

When a good portion of the process has been completed, patients will then have one-on-one time with a therapist. The therapist will help an individual to properly handled emotions, both the good and the bad. Within this process, patients will be reminded that they are going through detoxification. This is necessary in order to eliminate any need to become dependent on alcohol again.

Withdrawal

With drug rehab, an individual will have to fight and overcome withdrawal symptoms that may include irritability, mood swings, depression and aggressive behavior. Personnel at a specific rehabilitation facility will be able to effectively deal with people when withdrawal occurs. In some cases, medication will be administered to help stabilize a patient. This is usually true for people that have hidden psychological disorders.

Aftercare

When a patient is deemed healthy enough to go home, aftercare is next step to successful recovery. Before a person leaves, supportive family members and friends are to help patients by engaging in relationship counseling. Family members are also needed to help patients successfully graduate from rehabilitation.

Once a person leaves alcohol rehab or drug rehab, the struggles are not over but patients must still be optimistic. People are required to continue to attend outpatient drug addiction rehabilitation programs to gain support through twelve step meetings. Holistic treatments and group therapies may still be required when there are days a person feels the daily stressors begin to hurt his/her recovery process.

Question by : HELP! ALCOHOLIC + HEPATITIS C?
BEFORE YOU LOOK AT THE LENGTH AND QUICKLY EXIT OR SKIM THIS, PLEASE READ IT THOROUGHLY, I’M IN DESPERATE NEED OF YOUR HELP… PLEASE!

My mom has Hep C & is by such unfortunate and sad circumstances, also an alcoholic. She’s what they would call a “Functional Alcoholic,” she works, eats pretty healthy, a lot of fruits and vegitables, as well as drinks a lot of water. In other words, outside of her chronic alcohol use, her addiction, she’s pretty healthy- although she doesn’t exercise, and as a result from the drinking and lack of exercise has put on some weight, but is still reasonably thin.

Her drink of choice is Vodka. She claims, when drinking Vodka, this is when she gets carried away, but can control it when she drinks beer, for example. She mixes her drinks, and sips them slowly (mentioning this because i’ve read in some articles that this is a technique that alcoholics can use to try to control how much they drink)….but the fact still is: she drinks 7 days a week. Light consumption M-F, however enough to get a flush, or buzz, likely drunk by non-alcoholic standards. The weekends are another story. Friday-Sunday is an all-out binge. She’s told me she’s gone through an entire 1.75 JUG of vodka in one weekend… ALONE. Actually, she’s said that she’s done this many times, and it was a wake-up call and she stopped.

When she began drinking, many years ago, she would drink to relieve her anxiety, as many with anxiety disorders do. She was in treatment by age 16, got help, but started drinking again a few years later. She contracted Hepititis C when she was 24, she’s now 51, and has been an alcoholic the entire period she’s had Hep C. ALTHOUGH her alcoholism has gradually worsened throughout the years. Quite significantly. It wasn’t until about the past 5 years that the drinking became a daily ritual. It used to be, my whole life – adolescence, which ended about 6 years ago, she would only drink on teh weekends, and it wasn’t a weekend binge, it was limited to just the evening.

*IF I’M BORING YOU*

I’m giving details because i want to know what hope i can instill in her quitting drinking, given the specific circumstances i’m telling you, so please keep reading. Help someone who really wants help…me.

She won’t listen, and i have a strong feeling it’s due to hopelessness. She feels her liver isn’t perfect anyhow, along with her depression, trauma never recovered from (from childhood) she tried therapists throughout her life, and said the therapists never listened, or told her it was time to go in the middle of self-disclosure *basically she didnt find them helpful or she didn’t think they truly cared or both*. She is on an SSRI (anti-depressant) currently and thinks it’s working, but i keep telling her it WILL NOT work when you drink daily. The pill will cancel itself out. For all i know, the medication with the alcohol daily may be keeping her at an even keel.

LASTLY, it’s important to add the following:
She has tried to quit recently, twice. She went a few weeks without alcohol and said she was so God awful EXHAUSTED she couldn’t even hardly function. She said without the alcohol there is no longer anxiety present, and like i mentioned earlier, not facing the anxiety was what started the alcohol problems to begin, that, and the childhood trauma. But claims there is no more anxiety…Are theses signs of liver disease approaching or what’s up with that?

Based on what i’m telling you, what is some advice i can give to get her to cut down or stop drinking? I know the 12 steps, i know AA, i know rehab, i know out-paitient. She will not go to any, she sounded like she WOULD go to out-patient…but never did as her enforcers or reasons for going were not herself but the fact that she was hurting her kids and when we weren’t there to push her into it, never went….
The reasons for not going to Inpatient, AA, or the like is: she’s afraid of losing her job. I tell her what good is a job if you’re dead anyhow? She ignores this. In desperate need of wisdom from someone who KNOWS. Plz no garbage advice, this is a hard situation to deal with and i already know the problems assocaited with Hep C and Alc. so there’s no use in reinforcing that idea. I’ve tried reinforcing spirituality in her life, God… and that’s not helping…. I’ve tried amny things.

More importantly, i’ve tried telling her i’m not judging her, and that i love her and all i want is for her to not give up on herself.

Her current living situation is: ALONE. My stepfather recently passed from Alcoholism, just 5 months ago. This didn’t wake her up either.

Is she going to die from this disease? If she will enver stop drinking, how can i make my last years with her great & how can i let go the need to focus on her wellness?

Thanks for reading and i apologize for the
MAY I: Thank you for the feedback, I will absolutely pray as often as i can. This is great advice.

CANDACE: She is seeing someone regarding the Hep C., she gets yearly liver biopsies, and recently told me her last one came back 2X worse. This is alarming, but not surprising given her situation. You noted that you’re starting to feel this overwhelming urge to step-off. My advice: never give up. As long as you’re alive, keep trying to help your loved one until you’ve exhausted all options, that way if all fails, you will have peace of mind knowing you gave it your all. I’d love to talk regarding this, it’d be great to get some words of wisdom from someone who knows what it’s like. Being that i’m a young adult, i don’t have many friends that can really empathize with my situation. Nor would i want to burden those who can’t understand with things like this… bc the result isn’t going to be positive for anyone.

In this, let’s talk positives. Realities and positiives are one in the same,

Answer by may l
Hey,
Good luck with your situation. It is wonderfult o see someone that deeply cares for their parents. If you have ever watched Dr. Drew’s rehab show, you might know that it is hard for an addict to quit. The best advice I can give you is to pray for her. Beyond anything physical, which you have tried or which she refuses to partake in, God is always the healer. He can heal her alcoholism even though she is bound by it. Pray for her daily and every waking chance you get. This is the only cure I know will work. Good luck!

Answer by Joy Totheworld
OCD.

I have OCD, and I used to drink like an alcoholic (every night I would get drunk alone for 4 years) and use drugs like whoa. I’ve had OCD since age 12, but have never known. I just felt generally crazy. I traced my history, and found out. I can drink normally now.

Bipolar also can mimic alcoholism. Depression is linked with alcoholism. I would use google. It’s difficult.

These interventionists ensure this by communicating with the alcoholics in the language they understand and thereby convince them to get treatment from the rehabs. In a separate program, the near ones of the alcoholics are also educated about the need for providing the addict with an effective and understanding support platform at home to help the addict achieve complete recovery and a balanced life. This in turn, proves to be greatly effective not only for the addicts and their family members, but also for other members of the society.

However, detox is the most important and basic step that is adopted. There are again different procedures of detox available through which the alcoholic is made to withdraw from the dependency on the substance of abuse. Since technology has advanced, the procedures for eliminating the harmful toxins from the body are made less painful, so that the alcoholics can shed their fears about the process. Moreover, special care is provided to the addicts to make them feel most comfortable during and after the detox procedure.

Again based on the symptoms of withdrawal, different treatment procedures are adopted. The alcohol rehab Langley BC Canada can offer holistic forms of treatment and help them to learn different life coping mechanisms. Besides it smelling bad, it’s a toxic chemical that shouldn’t be applied to your skin daily. If inhaled or swallowed or it get’s into the bloodstream at all it can cause problems. Rubbing alcohol also contains a high concentration of “isopropyl” which is what you want to stay away from! if you expose this to your skin on a daily basis you are most likely getting it into your blood stream in small amounts which isn’t good. It’s not a sustainable acne treatment, same with hydrogen peroxide and benzoyl peroxide and salicyclic acid. I recommend addressing your diet and using natural skin care products instead.

Article by William A. Altom

Gastro esophageal reflux disease or GERD is a medical digestive condition in which the liquid content in the stomach is forced back into the esophagus. This is a reflux situation caused due to the improper functioning of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). When foods are consumed, the LES is stated to close the failure of which can result in such acid reflux. Thus in such situation the stomach acids forcibly enter the esophagus which causes great discomfort and may become severe for some people. The acid can inflame the esophageal lining which can cause gastro esophageal reflux disease. Thus it becomes necessary to understand the symptoms of gerd so that they are recognized and treated immediately.

What causes GERD?

Our stomach produces a kind of fluid known as gastric acid which is formed in the stomach and helps in digestion of food. This is responsible for enzyme activation and is suitable for digestion. It assists in ingesting proteins so that the digestive system can break down the long chain of amino acids. There are several reasons for GERD or acid reflux. The most common reason is due to the improper function of the LES. Studies conducted on several patients state that the irregular contraction and abnormal relaxation of the LES causes acid to flow into the esophagus. When there are more than two such refluxes in a week, it leads to severe gerd symptoms which are caused both to adults and children alike.

General Symptoms of GERD

Realizing the symptoms of acid reflux is not tough. However, warning signs and symptoms can imply severe GERD conditions which can get complicated in certain cases. Some common indigestion symptoms are:

• Inflammation of the area behind the ribcage or heat generation in heart after meals can stay up to several hours. Thus inflammation of this kind can move up to other parts of the abdomen like the stomach and even throat.

• In this condition, lying down or even bending can cause more discomfort. This is another gerd symptom.

• Regurgitation or bitterness of mouth is a state which occurs due to the burning sensation in the throat.

• In certain cases, patients can suffer from chronic soreness of throat and can even lose their voice.

• Hiccups can occur accompanied by difficulty in swallowing.

• Blood vomiting or black stool formation is a serious stage of this disease which requires immediate attention.

• Due to delay in muscle contraction response in esophagus, there may be a constant urge to cough for no reason.

However, should you have any healthcare related query or serious symptoms of the disease, it is important to consult a doctor. Do not refrain from seeking medical assistance and acquiring information about gerd symptoms from a physician.

Foods to avoid

Consuming certain foods in your diet causes inflammation of heart or heartburn. There are various methods to cure symptoms of gerd, proper food consumption being the most obvious one. However, in advanced stages of the disease the treatment may require drug therapy as well. Thus it becomes necessary to treat gerd symptoms as early as possible to abate complications. Foods that must be avoided for those suffering from gerd conditions are enlisted as follows:• Alcohol – There are several reasons why alcohol influences acid reflux. it is known to relax the body which explains why it makes the contractions and relaxations of the LES irregular. Thus acidic formation and alcohol consumption can together cause a person to experience heartburn, bloating, abdominal pain or even coughing.

• Caffeine – Caffeine is also known to have relaxing components which is quite similar to alcohol in nature. Hence, it is recommended that you limit your caffeine intake in coffee or even beverages which contain this ingredient and causes acid reflux.

• Citrus fruits and juices – Citric fruits are highly acidic which can cause heartburn in patients. Oranges, lemons and grapefruit can cause acid reflux when consumed by a patient suffering from the disease.

• Onions, garlic and tomatoes – Avoid raw onions in your diet as most people suffer from indigestion symptoms post consumption. Garlic is also has essential health benefits but may not be suitable for a person suffering from this ailments. Tomatoes for the similar reason are usually too acidic for people with gerd disease.

• Spicy and fried foods – Fried foods can cause acid reflux due to its high trans-fact content. It slows down digestion and throws the acid back into the esophagus. Thus it becomes vital to refrain from eating spicy and fried foods which accentuate the condition.
