Tourists come to Las Vegas to gamble their vacation money, see a big show and possible dabble in an illicit drug or two. While those tourists take their problems with them, there are still thousands of people in the Las Vegas area and across Nevada struggling every day with drug and alcohol rehab. Las Vegas likes to say what happens there, stays there. But what happens with drug addicts stays with them until they kick the problem by getting help. Based on statistics, Las Vegas, Nevada could easily be called Drug Rehab Nevada.
It can be argued that Nevada’s entire reason for existing can be boiled down to legal gambling. Indeed, the allure of the Vegas strip, fairly or unfairly, sums up Nevada for many people. On that single street, you can see the positives and negatives of an economy built on fun. The booze flows freely, the drugs are easy to find and the life is good. For a while.

Okay, I am an American, as many of you are, and I realize in other cultures it is different. But here in the Western world it seems that alcohol is far more acceptable than any other drugs … just look at the laws.
I have seen more damaging effects or equally damaging effects, of alcohol, than for example, marijuana or other drugs. It is strong and debilitating. How did the culture develop such a strong understanding for alcohol and such a resentment for other drugs? The effects of alcohol are just as damaging, if not worse, in my opinion than other drugs such as marijuana. Any substance abuse is bad, but why is it when we hear of a cocaine addict or a pot head that we immediately experience some sort of horror while your Uncle Tom can be an alcoholic without a job, living in bars and on people’s couches, and his behavior is some how more acceptable than the coke head or pot head who has a steady job and a home? I know alcoholism is taken seriously, I’m not saying that it isn’t. But the reaction of people hearing of a man or woman in a rehab program is more intense than their reaction to a man or woman in an alcoholism anonymous class.

Please do not insult my intelligence by saying that they do not. I would like to hear from a law enforcement official or from a lawyer/judge what it is about marijuana that makes it so much worse than heroine, EX, cocaine, crack, etc.
I don’t drink, no other drugs, just pot that I get from my family. I don’t harm anyone and no one gets hurt. I have no problems with my life.
My father does cocaine because drug tests don’t pick it up on urine samples. He also abuses alcohol, has saught both drug and alcohol treatment numerous times, and will likely die when his kidney/liver explode from being pushed to the brink for the last 40 years. His alcohol drove him to physically abuse my mother, mentally abuse me, and use his influence to create theatrical lies about me to the rest of my family in order to cut me out of the will; all because I would not accept his habits, and he saw it as a challenge.

My uncle is finally ready to try to stop his long term drug and alcohol abuse. He needs a long term facility. We want to give him an intervention because we all know he wont do the research himself. Can anyone throw me some names of facilities that have reputable results. It can be anywhere in the US. I appreciate any suggestions.

I was just wondering what everyones views are about teaching the dangers of Drug and Alcohol abuse in Islamic culture.
Do you feel that the Masjid offers enough information for youths about drugs and how they look(especially in countries where drug use is prevalent)?
Do you feel Islamic Communities offer adequate treatment programs?
Do you feel enough is being done to discourage the use of drugs? Such as education?
I know some will say why would you need to know about drugs when your a Muslim, I just want to say I have worked with youths who have mistakenly or had been tricked into taken some type of drug because they actually were unaware it was a drug…
Richard, I do not know if you have been to the Middle East but I will tell you since I live here the Khat is not accepted all over the Middle East. Khat is mainly consumed in Yemen and Somalia. It is Haraam in Islam. It is not accepted in the country where I live, Jordan.

Do you need rehab? Are drugs and alcohol a problem for you? Life, especially everyday life, and overall fulfillment depends a great deal upon a healthy balance – with or without drugs and alcohol. Rehab is the rehabilitation from an addiction to drugs and alcohol.
Psychology tells us that we essentially need three things to survive: food (including water), sleep, and a sexual outlet of some sort…drugs and alcohol are not needs! Lack of any one of these things means, in some cases, either death, or a disturbance in life until the need is in some way met! Rehab is an approach to recovering balance in the case of the abuse of drugs and alcohol. You cannot do anything exclusively without tiring of it, including drugs and alcohol! Rehab is about change, and nature and change are very much synonymous. You need time to work, time to eat, time to sleep, time to relax, time to be alone, time to dream, and to fantasize…in essence, life cannot be about any one thing to the point of detriment to other important areas of your life – including the use or abuse of drugs and alcohol. No one thing can be done exclusively without causing you pain (like from being too full from eating.) Rehab is applicable to recovering balance from drugs, alcohol, or any other behavior done to the exclusion of nearly all else.
