Question by : Alcohol withdrawal, problem need some questions answered please?
ust had a bad alcohol withdrawal and i need to quit drinking. Had most of the symptoms such as panic attack, rapid heart beat, sweating, convulsions, even hallucinations (spiraling white light while watching tv). I had to start drinking to get rid of it. I’m def quitting, worst experience ever. My question is what type of medical advice I need to do besides go to the doctor at the moment? Is there any type of over the counter things I can get?

Unfortunately, the war or drugs isn’t totally effective. Countless people are still succumbing to addiction everyday. Often friends and family members have to deal with their loved ones who are addicted to drugs or alcohol. They have to see them wasting away everyday.
Addiction to alcoholism and drugs is not limited to rich and famous celebrities. It affects average, everyday families, as well. For them, however, they don’t have the luxury of expensive, spa-style rehab facilities. It is their family and friends who have to deal with watching the addict self-destruct. Often families and friends want to know how to encourage someone into drug rehab. Fortunately, today we now can address addictions without the stigma attached to going to rehab.

Many patients may face many troubles initially during the start of the process, but with a little hard work as well as support, it is probable that they will come out of the addiction hale and hearty.A major problem with alcohol addicts that may lessen the efficiency of the treatment is bad health. These include vomiting, nausea, body ache, frustration, anxiety, tremors and a likelihood of seizure. All these require special attention and can seriously hinder the healing process if they are neglected. Before selecting any detox program for the patient, it is crucial to realize that every patient is different, thus his or her needs will be different, and so the right program must be chosen which can effectively cure the individual not only physically, but also emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. Every program has its own philosophy, which distinguishes it from the others. Thus, go for the apt treatment for your loved ones and provide them with an opportunity to live life once more.

Alcohol is an organic chemical formulated from yeast extracts from barley, rye, corn along with other ethyl containing beverages. A lot of people drink alcohol to alleviate their mood and senses. It is also a way to relax, unwind or celebrate but alcohol can be very addictive. Although a lot of people resort to alcohol as a short time answer to forget their problems, what they don’t know is that it can bring more problems especially to their health. Alcohol can destroy both your professional and personal life. If someone in the family is addicted to alcohol, they have to be given counseling and therapeutic healing at times. You have to show love, care and support. One of your family member or a good friend may inititate the counseling. There are also a lot of organizations out there that offer expert advice and family support and self-motivation. Self-motivation is possible due to many reasons. It could be that he will be guilty of acting differently everytime his drunk and then realize that he must stop the habbit of drinking alcohol. Also, it can be because they are ashamed to face their family especially their children or when they feel they are losing their road to success because of too much drinking. This will work to keep his determination in seeking professional help until he can successfully give up his addiction with alcohol. Most of the time, people addicted to alcohol lack the strength to fight their addiction alone. In cases like this, the family, particularly the wife or husband has an important role to play along the way. A friend can also help them to become aware of the negative effects of alcoholism in life, health, finance and most importantly in family life.Probably, the hardest part of the problem is the acceptance of the alcoholic person that he’s got a drinking problem. The acceptance of this fact goes in hand with admitting that he requires help. The following step is to initiate him into a group of Alcoholic Anonymous – a self-help group that respects the right of the individual to remain unknown, the social stigma related to the concern is gone making the environment suitable for recovery. The organization is made up of people who had the same problems during the past and help other people by way of their experiences. They will likely give you the benefit of taking the entire process from start to finish and they are capable to handle sensitively the emotional feeling of the alcoholic person. Alcohol Intervention is not guaranteed to take its effect forever. There has to be efforts in order for the strategies used to stop their addiction to be reinforced over again. This will likely prevent the individual from converting to the intake of the alcohol again.

Before drinking a glass of alcohol have you ever told yourself that nothing can possibly go wrong with just one drink? Your answer is probably a yes. Alcohol is the number one drug of choice for teenagers. Most kids don’t realize how drinking of alcohol can affect them. 1 drink can lead to many others, and maybe even addiction. Alcohol has many affects to your life and body. For example, it can cause you to drink and drive, get diseases, and maybe even get in trouble with the law. The consequences may lead you to a disastrous future.
One of the consequences for drinking is drinking and driving, which can lead to a life threatening accident. Many teenagers and adults don’t keep track of how much alcohol they consume, or how long it will take to were off. Many people make regretful choices when they are drunk. Studies show that about one in five drivers under the age 21 reported driving under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol loosens your inhabitations; you will most likely start to see double, it causes a slur in your speech, and you lose your sense of distance. As a result, many people get in accidents because they cannot concentrate on the road and it gets hard for them to follow or even see the street lights. In addition, when you are driving drunk you are not only causing harm to yourself but others on the road as well.
Another consequence for drinking is the chance of getting a disease. Drinking alcohol is not only dangerous for the few hours that you are drunk but alcohol can do long term damage to your body. By drinking too much alcohol on a regular basis many people can get diseases that are easy to get but really hard to cure. For example, alcohol can have far-reaching effects on different parts of the brain and muscles, with symptoms of memory loss, in coordination, seizures, weakness, and sensory deficits. Also, if an individual consumes too much alcohol, and the liver cannot break it down, that person will probably gets alcohol poisoning which many people die from. Becoming aware of the diseases that alcohol causes makes you think before you drink.
Alcoholism is a problem that many people have to deal with.
Alcoholism has effected people for a long time, but more recently been addressed as a physical problem as well as a mental.
Alcoholism is chronic illness characterized by the regular consumption of alcohol to a degree that interferes with physical or mental health, or with normal social or occupational behavior. A widespread health problem, it produces both physical and psychological addiction. Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant that reduces anxiety, inhibition, and feelings of guilt; lowers alertness so it will cause you to react differently towards a situation for example.. Walking around naked in the middle of a street while drink you wouldn’t think about the consequences. Alcohol can severely damage your heart, brain, esophagus, joints and muscles, liver, kidney and the list can go on and on.
Most families have problems with one of their family members drinking and such, drinking can seriously damage your relationship with your loved ones, as drinking alcohol effects the way you think and lets you do things you don’t really mean to do.
Another problem about drinking alcohol is addiction which can lead to debts, as you waste money on alcohol on a daily basis you will realize that the money you are using to get alcohol is hindering your life goals, also when addiction level is reached you will surely want more and do whatever it takes to get more alcohol, so either steal the money or taking loans from people which will almost certainly lead to debts. Your life will crumble little by little as you drink.
Alcohol is a drug, and it is the drug most abused by teens. Many kids have their first drink at an early age, as young as 10 or 11 or even younger. It’s easy for kids to get the wrong message about alcohol. They might see their parents drink, or watch TV commercials that make drinking look like a lot of fun. You might see people drinking and watching sports together or having a big party. So most likely when you see a parent whatsoever drinking around his/her child, you should easily know that the child will when they grow up will drink too because they see the parent drinking, so they interpret that its okay to drink. The major factor is that you’re not only destroying your life, your harming yours along with many people you love and care about.
Some mothers drink while they are pregnant, there are many illnesses that might occur to the infant in that case. If you drink heavily when your pregnant your child will run the risk of developing many behavioral problems. Teens whose mothers drank while they were pregnant are more likely to abuse alcohol

So I either want o something like drug and alcohol abuse, the bad way foster kid can be treated badly in foster homes. Something like that. It has to be really good. I want to be something like abuse or treatment or something like that. I don’t want to do something dealing with the government. It has to be a subject that I can found out how we can make awarness about it. How we can somehow make it better. Something to do with children and teenagers would be great. If you give me a good answer that I can and will maybe use I’ll give best answer. THNKS!!

Ok, I have just come to terms that I am a alcoholic . I fit right in there with most of the symptoms and such . My question is , is how in the hell do I go about asking for help and such? How in the hell do I tell my wife ? This is a first for me so any “real” answers are greatly appreciated !
I just simply cant stop thinking about the “buzz” ya know? Hell, I am drinking now .
Just to add some more information :
I only do this crap when the wife is gone. When she works a late shift, I stop and get a twelve pack and down as soon as I can .
Thanks for the reply Doc , but as of now, its not effecting my family or job/lifestyle . Obviously I know I have a problem, however, something such as detox , I don’t think , would work for me .
Donna C ,
Thank you very much for your reply . I completely understand what you are saying, however, the only thing that I am afraid of is my wife thinking that I am weak or looser or something along those lines .
Cheryl L , thanks for the reply, however, the family really doesn’t have a clue . For my family, its ok if one drinks a few beers/wine/whatever occasionally . Obviously, that doesn’t help my predicament .
Cheryl L ,
Thank you very much ! I had the conversation with my wife this evening after she got home from work . You were right, she already knew ! I guess I thought that everyone was obvious to the fact of what was going on .\
Thanks to everyone here for giving me the courage to start the fight .

A friend of mine has severe bipolar disorder and is currently a danger to herself. Unfortunately, the situation does not yet qualify for an involuntary hospitalization, so she continues to harm herself and abuse alcohol in a state of mania and psychosis. Even though she is an adult, it’s important that her parents keep her at home for a while to make sure she is safe and she will need a lot of care. The family needs ideas about keeping her in the house, making the environment safe, and helping regulate the perscribed medicine that she is refusing to take. Does anyone know of a good book or website about in-home care that I can refer her parents to?

Thank you for your answers already – I completely agree that she should be in professional treatment, but they can’t make her go, stay, or take her meds. She is a very willful young adult and the mental health care system has failed her so far. That’s the only reason I would ever support her parents in trying this at home.
